CHANGES IN COUNTY CAPITAL:

In Jan 2002, new leaders took over Solano County’s economic development organizations, that attract startups and company relocations. Since Karin MacMillan became Fairfield’s mayor, the focus became attracting professional businesses to Fairfield’s center. Less viable companies moved on. Fairfield’s center boasts Solano’s greatest concentration of professional businesses, and innovative thinking. The mile long West Texas Street, the gateway from I-80 to the historic center of Fairfield, is becoming Solano’s “Golden Mile”. Watch for West Texas Street’s improvements, and its Allan Witt Park. In 2004, Solano County will wisely consolidate their offices into central Fairfield’s new seven story structure project. Watch for further developments. www.FairfieldGateway.orgwww.FairfieldDowntown.org, and  www.okproject.com/SolanoCounty.gov

STABILITY OF LOCAL ECONOMY:

Many factors explain why Fairfield was less impacted by the past economic fall out than the Inner San Francisco Bay Area.  Solano county boasts much lower prices for quality homes.  Stable employers despite recessions include the Solano County government located in Fairfield.  The modern age of combating terrorism makes the presence of Fairfield’s Travis Air Force Base all the more stable and important.  Lower housing and living costs, bring lower wages.  In times of recession, companies seek to cut their expenses and locate in Solano county at the mid-point between the downtowns of San Francisco and Sacramento; during normal traffic they are each under 40 minutes drive.
